Knaresborough and Harrogate Brigantes Rotary Clubs take to skies

Knaresborough Rotary Club’s Immediate Past President is at it again!  Helen Westmancoat completed her 49th tandem skydive in 2021 in aid of RAF Charities, including the RAF Benevolent Fund, the Jonnie Egging Trust and the Lincoln Food bank.  The special charity skydive was arranged by Skydive Hibaldstow as part of the RAF Scampton Family Day on 6 August, and £500 from Helen’s jump was donated equally to the 3 charities.  Unfortunately, on the day the weather was somewhat cloudy and wet at times, but Helen’s jump was one of the few that did happen. Helen said “ It was a memorable experience parachuting in over RAF Scampton, and to be able to see the display by the Red Arrows for the event”.

Helen was joined earlier in the year by Harrogate Brigantes Rotarian David Billington, when they raised £1,288.75 for Martin House Hospice by skydiving, enough to pay for six months’ worth of parent support, four sessions of bereavement counselling and a visit from bereavement counsellors offering emotional support for parents going through the most difficult of times.

Well known for her skydiving and fundraising efforts, after several postponements, due to COVID and unfavourable weather conditions, Helen Westmancoat made her 50th skydive from 15,000 feet, at Hibaldstow on 22 February 2022.

Chris Verney,Regional Fundraiser for Martin House said, What an amazing impact for those families who need it. We are truly grateful for Helen and David’s support in taking on this challenge, and I am so glad that Helen finally got to do her 50th jump.  Congratulations on reaching this milestone!
