An update from Stephen Ellis our District Foundation Lead - April 2023
We agreed to send $10,000 from our DDF fund to End Polio Now, which I have now actioned.
Effective 1 July 2021, DDF donations in this category will be matched 50% for every US$1 (up to US$10 million) by The Rotary Foundation’s World Fund.
From 2013 to 2023, every US$1 that Rotary commits to direct support for polio immunization will be matched 2 to 1 (up to US$50 million per year) by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Donate $2,000 DDF and it becomes $9,000. Donate $10,000 DDF and it becomes $45,000.
Update ends.
Dear Fellow Rotarian
Direct Giving to the Rotary Foundation
The next edition of Rotary magazine, coming through your letterbox at the beginning of February, features some of the great things Rotarians can do with the support of your Rotary Foundation – I believe our district might be included!
Of course, your Foundation needs your financial support so we can continue this good work. Traditionally, many clubs had given directly to your Foundation, and we are very grateful for this, but over the past few years we have been encouraging Rotarians to make individual donations.
I am often asked “how to do this?” With recent changes to the Rotary GB&I website this is now easier than ever. If nothing else, it saves your club treasurer from a lot of admin!
So, if you aren’t already a direct contributor (and many thanks if you are), how do you give to the Rotary Foundation?
Just go to the Rotary GB&I website:
About Rotary - Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland (rotarygbi.org)
And click on the Donate button (top right).
But here’s a short-cut:
The Rotary Foundation - Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland (rotarygbi.org)
And it will take you directly to the page of Our Campaigns.
Chose the fund you want to support – hopefully both Annual Fund and End Polio Now (and there are more options on the page) – then click on Donate in GBP which takes you to the giving page where, hopefully, you will select to give a monthly amount by direct debit and allowing RFUK to claim Gift Aid.
So how much should I give? Rotary International have an aspiration that, each year, Rotarians give $100 to the Annual Fund and $55 to End Polio Now. Being liberal with exchange rates and rounding, this is only £10/month for the Annual Fund and £5 for End Polio Now – compare these with what you might be paying for a glass of wine or beer at your Rotary meeting – and all donations are shown against you and your club in the various Foundation statistics and potential awards and attracts Gift Aid which increases the size of your donation.
We would be delighted if you wanted to give more, and if you become a National Lottery winner, we have Rotarians who can come and see you about larger donations!
Thank you for taking the time to read this note. Hopefully, you will have clicked some of the links and become a regular contributor to the Rotary Foundation – your own Rotary Charity.
And finally, a special thanks to you on behalf of all who have benefited from projects funded by the Rotary Foundation.
Kindest Regards,
IPDG Stephen Ellis
District Foundation Lead 2022-23
