Ukraine
Past District Governor Stephen Ellis will be re-joining the International Committee from September to help deliver the Ukrainian project.
Our focus now is very much on delivering the Disaster Response Grant. To date we have approved successful project proposals from the Dales, Leeds, North, North East, South West and Bradford areas of our District that covers large areas of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
The second delivery of medical action bags have arrived safely in Ukraine.
Sri Lanka - The Rotary Club of Kandy
We are still managing to maintain regular contact with Shamil Parkes from the Kandy Rotary. Shamil reports that the situation in Sri Lanka is very challenging with some families struggling to only have one meal a day. The need for basic food and medical supplies remains very high. Thanks to the generous donation of David Hawkins of Roundhay Rotary we are going to be able to send £1,500 to help them further. Roger Cannon is applying for a matching District Grant in the hopes that we can increase this. Roundhay are happy to collect any further monies if any other Clubs would like to donate. Please contact Roger directly if your club would like to help.
Beirut
We maintain regular contact with Habib Saba and know that the situation in Beirut remains challenging. We are currently working with District 1285, in North West England, and Fire Aid to send fire engines plus equipment to Lebanon. The estimated cost of each fire engine is £3,000.
