Jim Murison is delighted to be able to report that one of the entries submitted by District 1040 has won the national competition. The news was officially announced at COP26 on 5th November 2021 via a live stream. The Rotary specific section can be found between approx 45 and 50 mins.

The Rotary specific section can be found at approx 45 minutes and is 5 minutes long

The entry, submitted by Denby Dale Rotary Club, was from Kirkburton Middle School, Huddersfield – ‘Keep it beating’ – a lovely drawing of a heart shaped world.

The winner by Emma O’Donnell

Jim thanked Richard Wynne, Denby Dale Rotary, for arranging, judging and submitting the entries from their club.

The following entries were placed second and third in the national competition:

Austin Harris of Methlick Primary School, Aberdeenshire, District 1010

Lucy Santer of Pipers Corner School, Amersham, District 1260

Jim thanks District 1230 and the Rotary Club of Helensburgh Garelochside, who promoted the competition and congratulate them for the foresight to use the COP26 conference in Glasgow in November, as a means of promoting Rotary through primary schools across the country.

Although only a few clubs in our District took up the challenge we still had entries from 9 Rotary clubs. However, many children took part and I congratulate Valerie Jenkins (Shipley Rotary) for receiving 250 entries across the schools in her area. The organisers estimate that over 3800 children have participated in the competition across the UK.
